What
are the advantages of using a Licensed Contractor or Subcontractor
to work on your home or build it?
Arizona law requires anyone who
contracts to perform a service valued over $750 to be licensed
by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.
Becoming a
Licensed Contractor in Arizona requires that you have
been employed by a Licensed Contractor in your field from 2 to 4 years (depending on
the license type). A test is also required of the applicant to
ensure that they are knowledgeable about standards, codes, and
basic business skills.
Before a license
is issued to an applicant who has fulfilled the above requirements,
they must obtain a bond to secure that the bills are paid. The
Licensed Contractor will also be required to carry insurance
to cover his workers, in case of an accident, and liability insurance.
A Licensed Contractor is also required to guarantee his work
for two years after it is completed.
The Arizona
Registrar of Contractors has a recovery fund that will reimburse
clients of Licensed Contractors who have not received the service
that they contracted for. The Registrar is also available to
inspect any defects in workmanship standards that the customer
may have.
The cost and
time involved in becoming a Licensed Contractor and following
the local, State and Federal requirements are an important part
of insuring that the work performed for the client is done correctly.
Don't take
a chance with hiring someone that is not licensed, You may save
a few dollars but take the chance of losing a lot more if the
job is not done right.

Contractor.
